Q & A...

Q & A Wednesday...

A: The publishing industry seems to be in a bad state right now. It's almost impossible for a new voice to be given a chance. The shift from paper to electronic reading is also unstoppable. I love my digital books! It's so easy to access and find new writers to fall in love with. Don't get me wrong, I am still very much interested in making my book(s) into physical copies but it is just not needed anymore. Embrace the future...

A: Finishing up the third book in the Ember series, Aftershock. After that I will step away from the series for a little bit. I have a new trilogy ready and waiting to publish called 13 BREATHS. The first book of the three is complete. It's awesome! I'm so excited to have people read it.

A: King! King! King! Stephen King is the man. Music and the eye candy that fills my head is my biggest influences though. I see the world as an endless music video...that's how I write. M.D.

J Scott Campbell

Linky Dinks Tuesday!!!

Showing some love for my favorite artist on the planet...J Scott Campbell. His artwork includes the comics Gen 13, Danger Girl, Wildsiderz and many more. His interpretation of Aspen Matthews (Fathom comic), was one of my biggest inspirations for Asia in my book Ember...

Check out one of his pages here:

Zero 7 - Destiny (HD Official Video)

Music Monday!

Zero 7: Destiny...

Chapter 20_DESTINY starts with this haunting melody. Exactly the feel and mood I wanted to convey on Max and Samantha's midnight date. Things change for Max drastically this night. Stars, sand, new love and the excitement of the future spin around in my brain when I listen to this song...enjoy.

It's Thunderdome!!!

Free Rant Weekends!!!

Saturday and Sunday are my days to babble on about whatever pleases or annoys me at the moment.

I blog, therefor I am... I'm still getting the hang of this crazy thing call blogging. I want to get the word out on my writing and books but sometimes it feels like nobodies listening. Words are important and should not be wasted. Sometimes it feels like I'm wasting them with all the different venues in cyber space. To the few who have clicked on my words and took the time to read them...I thank you and hope you come back for more.

I have found blogs that I enjoy immensely and others that seem to make me ask "why?" To each his/her own... I'm not giving up on this blogging thing, just venting slightly.

I write because I have to. I need to. I love it. My writing and words will not change the world. My stories exist for one reason...pleasure. Escape from the big bad world that consumes so many of us everyday. Words tied together with music is a powerful being. I am just shaping that "being" into hopefully something beautiful.

Look...listen...fade away...M.D.

Addicted to Dex!!!

Review Friday!!!

My first official review. I had wanted to make my first review on a book or movie BUT as any new author can tell you; there just aren't enough hours! Sooooooo, I figured I'd review my newest and most addictive obsession...DEXTER.

Dexter is easily the best written and heart stopping show on TV (Showtime). Season 6 is almost here but I figure I should start with season 1.

It all starts with a dark passenger...

Season 1 sets the tone for all the rest of the seasons. The story is about Dexter Morgan who is secretly a killer. He was born into this. Thankfully he has learned to channel his evil intentions towards the worst of society. (THINK BATMAN ON A REALLY BAD DAY!)

This show is almost impossible to write a review for without giving away some kind of detail or twist. So I will only say this... it is filled with cutting edge humor, excellent pacing, story twists galore and most surprising of all...heart. One warning though, everyone in the cast is fair game...choose your favorite carefully...

The show is definitely adult. No kids aloud - for good reason.

Out of the first 5 seasons, DEXTER: SEASON 1 is one of my favorites. (SEASON 4 IS THE BENCHMARK!) Find it on blu-ray, dvd or netflix ASAP. You won't be sorry...M.D.

Had to upload new versions of my book Ember to Smashwords and Amazon. Just fixing a few tiny mistakes and updated info. Amazon version should be back "LIVE" in a couple days. Smashword version is ready again but it will be a few weeks before they filter the new versions to all the other outlets (B&N, Kobo, Sony, iBooks etc...).

Self publishing is an adventure!!!

Ask Me Anything...

Q & A Wednesday!

This is the hump day interview. Any questions sent to me or interviews I do will be posted every Wednesday. Since I'm just starting out, I will have to play interviewer for the time being. If you would like to interview me for your blog or website just send a personal message or email. Enclose your name and who or what you represent and include at least 5 questions. I'll paste them with the answers on the following Wednesday, in my blog. Soooooooo, here goes nothing...M.D.

How long have you been writing?

A: Pretty much since I was a kid. I used to write and design my own comic strips when I was younger. That turned into full stories and scripts when I became a teenager. In high school I focused my writing on music. Now I have decided to join the two arts...Ember SEries is born!

Why the musical playlists?

A: I live my life surrounded by music. When I write it is no different. It helps me. I love making a playlist on my iPod when I'm reading a book. I noticed so do many people...especially teenagers. In this digital age it just makes sense to combine the two.

How many chapters are planned in the Ember Series?

A: At the moment 6. It was originally penned as a trilogy - beginning, middle, end. Somewhere near the end of writing book 2 (Downpour), I discovered a path that would expand the story and character arcs. Very excited about that. If the story catches on it could possibly be expanded even more...we'll see.

Kerli - Love Is Dead

Kerli - Love Is Dead

This song set the tone for the ending of my book Ember. I had decided to use it pretty early on in the writing process. The chapter it represents (Ashes_32) was one of the easiest to write because of this song. It just came out. Thank you Kerli! Enjoy...M.D.

They Meet...

The inspiration and background music for Max and Asia's first meeting on the haunted beach. I really love the vibe and groove of the song. Exactly reflects the new infatuation in Max's eyes.

Ember Series

The Ember Series is scheduled for a 6 book story arc. The first 2 books in the series are finished. The 3rd book is almost done (NEEDS FINAL WORK THROUGH). The last 3 books in the series are plotted out to their exciting conclusion BUT will probably be put on the back burner as I work on my next series, "13 BREATHS."

13 BREATHS is my new SciFy/Teen adventure that I hope to have more info about in the coming months. It's a trilogy and Book 1 is ready and waiting to be published.

As for Ember, here's the potential rundown...

All books in the series have accompanying musical playlists that enhance the stories emotions.

I can not wait to share them with you (SOONER THAN LATER) in the near future....M.D.
